Overview of Sydney Metro Pyrmont East Development

Sydney Metro, Australia’s largest public transport project, required innovative solutions to manage the environmental impact of large-scale construction at its Pyrmont East site. To minimise noise, dust, and debris while ensuring safe and efficient operations in a high-traffic area, an acoustic shed was built over the tunnel boring site.

Custom Commercial Doors for Construction and Industrial Sites

Acoustic sheds, such as the one built at Pyrmont East, are essential in managing the environmental impact of large-scale tunnelling projects. High speed doors were required for the acoustic shed, to provide efficient and secure access in a high-traffic environment. However, there were several key challenges to address when designing rapid doors for a large and critical site such as the acoustic shed for the boring tunnel:

Provide smooth and reliable operation for frequent use of a variety of trucks and vehicles in a high-traffic environment.

Safety
With constant vehicle and personnel movement, safety was critical. They needed a Rapid door which was designed with safety at the forefront and with features which would ensure that doors would not close on people or objects, to create a safe workspace.

Reusability
Since the acoustic shed was temporary, the door required needed to be easy to disassemble and reuse. A durable, modular rapid door design which allows it to be repurposed for future projects, supporting sustainable and cost-effective practices.

To address these challenges, Remax Doors supplied a custom Movidor Concertina Rapid Folding Door, a high-performance industrial door solution tailored to meet the specific requirements of the Pyrmont East acoustic shed. This innovative door was chosen for its unique features and ability to deliver on all fronts: functionality, safety, and environmental control.

• The door features a dual-skin curtain with integrated strap systems, ensuring acoustic properties are maintained within the shed.

Efficient Design and Operation

• The Movidor Concertina Door measures an impressive 6 meters high and 9.4 meters wide, providing ample space for trucks, machinery, and workers to pass through seamlessly.
• The Concertina Rapid Folding Doors’ unique twin-skin provides additional benefits from our single skin fold up doors (Movifold for example) for the reason that the air-pocket between the skins provides an insulating barrier against temperature and noise through the opening.
• The twin-skin curtain design also allows for the lifting straps to be fully concealed from the elements to provide long-lasting and reliable operation.

Remote Activation

• This allows for smooth operation, with handheld remotes providing quick and easy access for site personnel.

Enhanced Safety Features

• LZR Safety Sensors: Mounted on the door, these sensors monitor the opening and prevent the door from closing if an object or person is detected in its path. This ensures the safety of workers and equipment at all times.
• Condor Radar Sensors: Installed on both sides of the door, these sensors provide an additional safety zone around the opening. They detect movement in front of and along the threshold of the door, adding an extra layer of protection for high-traffic areas.
• Visibility Panels: Integrated into the door, these panels improve light and visibility for enhanced safety and awareness on-site.

Reusability and Sustainability

• The temporary acoustic shed, including the Movidor Concertina Door, is designed for easy disassembly and reusability. Once the tunnelling project is complete, the shed and door can be repurposed for other projects, reducing waste and promoting sustainability.
