After a recent outbreak of the Mediterranean fruit fly in the South Australian region, pest control became an importance consideration for the South Australian Produce Market. With contamination of their produce a high threat in the facility, the Market identified the most obvious entry of the airborne pest was through the open doorways onsite.
It was import for the SA Markets to find a door solution that was able to accommodate large volumes of traffic, while still maintaining a constant seal against dust and pests. With the Movidor fast-acting doors, each opening was configured with integrated radar sensors, to detect oncoming traffic and allow access. In minimising downtime in the door openings, the time period in which the doors stay closed is maximised, preventing the least amount of dust and pest entry possible.
Due to the nature of the traffic entering the buildings – typically very large transportation trucks as well as forklifts and cars – the door openings had to be extremely large. Most of the door openings throughout the project were as large as 8000mm wide and 5500mm high, and exterior applications. This meant that the doors suited to these openings needed to be not only strong enough to maintain rigidity in such large openings, but be able to withstand the elements of external use. For these reasons the Concertina Rapid Folding Doors were used for the majority of the openings.
